Infrastructure Programme Manager
Kingfisher IT Services, Eastleigh

Guiding my team to deliver solutions to help our colleagues every day. A Programme Manager is someone who is responsible for a team of Project Managers to deliver solutions effectively. My programmes consist of maintenance and strategic solutions in the back end IT systems.

My favourite job was at Sun Microsystems. Having worked there on two different occasions, I felt comfortable there. It was a great organisation to work for but the people is what made it worthwhile. I enjoyed the variety of different roles I had there, every day was different. It was a fun place to work!

Hi, I'm in my early 40s and have enjoyed a varied career (from an Administrator to Programme Manager in IT). It's not what I planned but I'm here now 🙂

Outside of work I enjoy cycling, hiking, dancing, yoga, cooking, sewing, painting and general creative arts.

I work 4 days a week which allows me to have a healthy work-life balance and spend more time volunteering at my daughter's school and with Girl guiding. At the school I lead some events, do the class library runs and generally any additional support the teachers may request.

This is me!

It's OK if you don't know what you want to do as a profession when at school. Don't close avenues and keep your options open ... you could go for full-time university, or full-time work and a part-time university course or even an apprenticeship. There is no hard and fast rule .... choose the option that makes you happy :)

My Education
Foundation Degree in IT Applications
Birkbeck, University of London
London, England
MBA (Master’s Degree (MBA))
BPP
London, England
Biology, Drama, English Language, French, Geography, Mathematics, Economics, Food technology
Langdon Comprehensive School, London

English Language & Literature, Drama and Food Technology were my 3 favourite subjects. I liked most creative & practical subjects. Economics and Biology were my least favourite; just not interesting enough and much to complicated!

More about me

Communication, Presentation

I have completed a number of training courses during my career, project management training, presentation, negotiation and programme management to name just a few; these have helped developed skills I use in day to day work life.

I have maintained close contact with mentors I have met along the way; even a school teacher! some male, some female ... but all have played a vital role in my career (even if they don't know it!!)

I wanted to be an air stewardess only. I wanted to live in the skies. I had no idea what a Project Manager was or that it even existed!

I would concentrate more on my GCSEs and I would take an apprenticeship in a creative area; like dressmaking, fashion or photography.
