Student job to pay the bills. I worked behind a bar when at uni. This was the best job with a fantastic manager and I made friends for life working here. Extremely useful for building people skills as we had a very diverse clientele.
From general dogsbody to doing the operations over 13 years with a great mentor. Every spare evening at school was spent here (voluntary). Being a runner/ extra pair of hands for the vet from cleaning the consulting table to cleaning out cat litter trays, dispensing tablets, taking payments, observing consultations. It was a long time ago and positions like this don't really exist now but I stuck with Charlie all the way through until I qualified, saw practise with him as a student and he came to my graduation.
Emergency service nurse assistant at weekends. I was paid (hooray!) to answer phones and assist the vet in an emergency clinic during my fourth and final years at uni. Gained loads of people skills and vet skills and to appreciate nurses- vets can't do a good job without them.
Veterinary surgeon. A newly qualified vet seeing pets treating them.
I own and run a small animal vet practice.
It's important to like animals but even more important to like people to do my job well.

PLEASE ADD

I wanted to be a vet from when I was 4!
I'd stay on for 6th year instead of leaving school early. I was too young when I left.
