“Everyone’s Welcome at Tesco” sits fundamentally at the heart of our values. We are committed to providing an inclusive working environment where difference is embraced and valued. We want all colleagues to be at their best and we are committed to ensuring that all colleagues have the opportunity to get on – developing the skills they need for now and the future, whoever they are, wherever they work and whatever they do.
Building an inclusive culture where everyone has the opportunity to get on is a key action of our Little Helps Plan. Our second business value, we treat people how they want to be treated, is embedded throughout the business; from recruitment to training and development opportunities, and from reward to retirement.
We not only celebrate diversity, but embrace the value it brings to enable us to serve our customers a little better every day. That’s why everyone is treated fairly and given the opportunity share their experiences in the business.
In order to support our colleagues and to encourage them to share their knowledge, explore career sponsorship, mentoring and networking, we run a number UK Colleague Networks. We have five colleague networks: Out at Tesco (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender and Intersex), Black Asian Minority Ethnic Network, Women at Tesco Network, The Armed Forces Network and the Disability Network.
We also work with the young, retired and those who have been in long term unemployment via various external organisations to provide them with the tools and confidence needed to get back into the work place and reach their full potential.
We support Modern Muse because we see how important it is to support the next generation. This is especially true in technology, where the lack of diversity in the current workforce (both in the UK and more widely) is well publicised. In order to help balance this out, we work with a number of organisations to help promote careers in STEM subjects to girls and young women. These organisations include Code Club and the #TechSheCan Charter, as well as Modern Muse.
We have a range of opportunities depending on your age. For information on our internships, apprenticeships and graduate programmes, please visit www.tesco-programmes.com.
